FAQ

What additional costs are added to my bid?

On top of your bid, a percentage of auction fees and VAT always applies. The auction fees are either 8% or 12.5%. VAT is calculated over both the bid and the auction fees. Just before you confirm your bid, you will always receive an overview showing all costs related to your bid, including the total purchase price.

I accidentally placed a bid, how can I withdraw it?

Accidental bids are extremely rare. Unfortunately, once a bid has been confirmed and you have explicitly agreed to our terms and conditions, it cannot be withdrawn. From that moment, you are legally obliged to honour your bid.

What is the difference between a “static” and “auto bid”?

A static bid means you place the next allowed bid or enter an amount manually. If another bidder places a higher bid, you must place a new bid manually.
An auto bid means you set a maximum amount you are willing to pay for the lot. The platform will automatically place the next possible bid whenever someone else bids higher, until your maximum is reached or the auction closes.
You can override an auto bid by placing a static bid one increment above the current bid. If another bidder places a static bid equal to your auto bid maximum, the auto bid takes priority.

The lot description says “margin item”, what does that mean?

A margin item is a lot for which VAT has already been paid. You do not need to pay VAT on your bid; only VAT on the auction fees applies.

Can I view the lots in person?

Yes. Each auction has a designated viewing day for inspection. You can view lots before the auction closes. The date is always specified per lot. Viewings are by appointment only, and exact locations are provided after registration.

What does “subject to approval” mean?

Some lots are offered subject to approval. In that case, the highest bid is submitted to the seller after the auction closes. If the seller accepts the bid, the lot is awarded and sold. If not, the lot is not sold.

Is there a warranty on my lot?

We carefully describe all lots, but you must inspect them yourself during the designated viewing days. Only private individuals may claim warranty based on non-conformity of the goods under Articles 1649bis–1649octies of the Civil Code.

What is the 60-second rule?

If a bid is placed within the last 60 seconds before the auction closes, 60 seconds are added to the closing time to give everyone a fair chance to place a final bid.

How do I pay?

After winning an auction, you will receive a pro forma invoice that can be paid online via “My Purchases” using iDeal or Bancontact. Payment via bank transfer is also possible.

Can my lots be collected at a later date?

No, unless explicitly stated in the auction. All lots must be collected at the designated time indicated in the lot description.

How does collection work?

After payment of the pro forma invoice, you receive a collection note or invoice. Bring this to the scheduled collection time to pick up your lots. The date and time are specified in the lot information, and the exact location is on your collection note or invoice.

I have a business account, but VAT still appears on my invoice

VAT-free invoices are only possible if you have a business account, are in another EU country (not Belgium), and your VAT number has been verified in the VIES database.
If you are outside the EU, invoices include VAT, which can be refunded after you provide export documents within 7 days. A new invoice without VAT will then be issued.
